Stage I Prelims- CSAT (Objective)
The Preliminary exam contains two papers.
Paper I-200 marks: 2hours
Current events of National and International importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography
Indian Polity and Governance
Economics and Social development
General issues and Environmental Ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change
General Science
Paper II-200 marks: 2hours
Comprehension
Interpersonal Skills
Communication Skills
Logical Reasoning
Analytical Ability, Decision Making, Problem Solving
General Mental Ability
Basic Numeracy
English Language Comprehension
Stage II –Mains (only for those who have passed Prelims-CSAT)
Candidates will be selected for the Mains in the approximate ratio of 1:12
Pattern of Mains Examination (Descriptive)
Compulsory Language Papers
1 English - 300 marks *
2 Indian Language - 300 marks *
*Candidate has to qualify in these papers. However, the marks obtained in these
papers will not be considered for final ranking
3 General Essay - 200 marks
4 General Studies Paper1 - 300 marks
5 General Studies Paper2 - 300 marks
6 First Optional Paper1 - 300 marks
7 First Optional Paper2 - 300 marks
8 Second Optional Paper1 - 300 marks
9 Second Optional Paper2 - 300 marks
  Total - 2000marks
The optional 1&2 subjects must be selected from the list of 25 subjects announced by UPSC.
Stage III –Interview (300 marks)
Successful candidates in the Main exams will be called for personality test at Delhi by the UPSC in the ratio of 1:2. Final ranking and service will be allotted to the candidates based on their marks in Mains exams and Interview
